Makeup tips that won’t irritate sensitive skin

The issue with having sensitive skin and wanting to put on makeup is that you need to be extra careful with what you put on it, or else it’ll get irritated. Unfortunately.
You can get reactions like stinging sensations on your skin, redness, and flaking or even a rash. This means that sensitive skin makes looking for a good makeup product (sadly) seem like a never-ending trial.
You normally have to go for products labelled “hypo-allergenic” and “fragrance- free” since the usual triggers for a bad skin reaction are fragrances, preservatives, colours, and formaldehyde, as well as lactic, glycolic, benzoic and alpha hydroxy acids, propylene glycol and sodium lauryl sulphate. Even certain essential oils like chamomile and calendula can cause you problems because of your sensitive skin.
If you still plan on battling against your skin’s reactions and want to make it look fabulous, follow these bits of advice on how to be careful with it whenever you apply makeup:

Prepare Your Face

Start by using a fragrance-free moisturizer meant specifically for sensitive skin before putting on anything. Apply it just after showering so you can lock in extra moisture, or use a moisturizing spritz just before the cream.

Moisturizing will keep your sensitive skin hydrated.

Mineral Foundations Are Best

For sensitive skin, mineral foundation is best since it’s free from any fragrances or dyes that can irritate your skin. Using this type of foundation can actually make your skin glow and not look chalky at all. Apply it by dipping a brush in the foundation, shaking off the excess, and sweeping it over your face using circular motions. Do the same with a concealer brush and blend the product under the eyes and on any other blemish you wish to hide.

Bronze Goddess

When choosing a bronzer, get one that is a mica-free powder bronzer that has a little bit of shimmer. To apply it, use a bronzer brush and dust a small amount right where the sun would naturally fall on your skin, such as your forehead, the bridge of your nose, cheekbones, and chin. Whatever’s left on the brush, sweep it over your neck so it blends in with your face.

Rosy Cheeks

Choosing the best shade of blush must be the colour you naturally blush, obviously. The good thing is that a powder is easiest to apply and lasts the longest. Simply dip the blush brush in the powder, shake off the excess and sweep it over the apples of your cheeks. With a clean powder blush, finish by blending it with the rest of your makeup and you’re done.

Having sensitive skin doesn’t have to be a huge bother when you’re looking for makeup. You simply have to be a little more careful with ingredients, but not limiting on what makeup products you can use on your skin. Follow these tips the next time you apply makeup and you’ll be able to look fabulous without having to irritate your sensitive skin.
