Body image and you!

Body image and you : Body image is an obsession. We are all constantly or at some point looking at our selves in the mirror, analyzing our appearance, and judging the way our bodies fit in our clothes and out of them. And since we’re living in a society that perpetuates unrealistic standards for the “perfect body”, we become victims of shame when we find ourselves unable to fit into that single mold.

Boyd Dysmorphic Disorder

Normally, or ideally, the mental representation of our body image and what others see of us should be fairly equal and good. It’s true that we idealize our appearance, but we derive it from either a reflection or an image of ourselves. But the distortion of our body image comes mostly when others speak their negative opinions on it, and . This begins to impact how we actually think of ourselves and our appearance, damaging our self-perception and creating a negative body image or Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD).
BBD is a condition that distresses our thoughts over our self-awareness in an obsessive way. It points out flaws in our appearance over what we have come to learn that is not okay for others, damaging our body image senselessly. These flaws can be about having short legs, facial hair, a small breast size, a thick waist, thin hair, etc. But since these flaws can also seem so small that others might not have even noticed them before, BDD has been termed as an “imagined ugliness”. For someone with such a distorted body image, these tiny flaws become very real for them because their obsessive thoughts make these imperfections seem more relevant and bigger than they actually are. With this, the person begins to believe that she/he is too horribly ugly or disfigured to be seen outside, doing everything possible to fix it or avoid interaction.
